Although he was exhausted from his journey he felt a we of excitement building up inside, he’d soon be back home. Farmer Gills was on the next bend , two fields and hilltops to go. Jared had been away from home for 7 years 2 months 3 days and what do hours and minutes matter. He’d been fighting for the king, a member of the Dark Ellet, covert missions etc. His signed time had ended, he was free to return home and so here he was. Stopping atop the first hill he took in the mountains away in the distance, every child new that view, new these hills those mountains, the lake to the west and sprawling fields to the east, he took it in and his breath 1 dip and hill and he’d see his house his village his people he’d be home.
A short moment later he was through the dip and on the last hill climb. He started to smile even hum a little tune as he climbed the hill, yet at the top his heart sank and he dropped to his knees, he couldn’t take in the site that met his now weeping eyes…. His village lay in ruins fires still burned, the once green field before him was blood stained and the bodies of villagers who had tried to escape lay dead , creeds (crow like creatures) hopped between the bodies. His eyes locked on 3 bodies off to one side, a women and 2 children, he got to his feet screaming “gods no please no , not them” the creeds took to the sky. He fell soon the bodies (cold and still) pulling his wife and children into his arms he cried out in pain like he’d never felt…… after a few hours he buried his family, standing at the grave side in silence a wedding ring now on his right pinky. After taking one last breath he headed down to the village to look for any signs of who would kill his people in such a barbaric way. His sorrow turned to pure anger as he stared at the body of a dark knight baring the colours of the very king he’d been fighting for….
A voice came to him “seek ye the hermit of the old woods, vengeance shall be yours….. Frent ”
At that moment a horse trotted to Frents side and nudged his shoulder with it’s nose.
He mounted the horse and headed at speed for the Hermit.
