Hello and welcome, please sit down and I’ll tell you about the Welcome Heart on Ballard Street.
By day that is to say from 10:30 till 7:30 you’ll find a homely family pub with plenty of seating a carvery and a child friendly play area. Staff are always happy to help and you will be welcomed with a smile as if you were a old friend. Between 7:30 and 9pm the Welcome Heart goes through a transformation, chairs and tables are removed from the centre making way for a dance floor and the carvery is replaced with a DJ, the club stays open then until midnight.
The night of the 16th June…
I have been single for a few years now and it was time to do something. I’d tried before elsewhere but friends had told me good things about The Welcome Heart, so in I went the place got quite busy not overly so though, and the music was never played so loud as to make people shout at each other. I tried my luck twice and got rejected twice. This of course knocked my self esteem and to be honest I was thinking of leaving, but I talked myself into one more drink first, I’m so glad I did. I had just sat down when She walked in.
My heart literally skipped a beat, skin tight blue jeans, a white vest top flat shoes, her hair long and auburn seemed to flow in a non existent wind, thin rimed glasses rested on a perfect nose, fair skin with a pinch of freckles. I couldn’t help but stare, she looked over, I looked away like a school boy..
when I looked back up I couldn’t see her, my soul sank. A voice came to my ears soft as silk, “ may I join you?”
It was my dream, I of course said yes. We talked and drank till we were kicked out, her name was Emma she was a 35 year old I.T. Wiz. We walked and talked side by side, when our hands bumped they locked and yes there were sparks. After about an hour the temperature dropped so i gave her my jacket, that earned me a hug. The drizzle came next so I got us a taxi, when we got to her home, She invited me in, I declined her face dropped. I quickly took her hands in mine and said “ It’s not that I don’t want to, god knows I do. But we’ve both been drinking it wouldn’t be rite and I want this to be rite” the frown disappeared and she seemed to been, next i knew I was in her arms she’d pulled me into love embrace, in the rain that followed we shared our first kiss. She pulled away from me her face serious, “yes” still holding my hand she took me through the front door, We shut the door leaving the weather outside….
