As I’m sure you will know and understand if you have been lucky enough to pass your driving test, be it first time or several attempts having a car of your own means freedom. Ok ! Yes we tend to go through stages , the show off (teen) mates in the car, taxi driver, then solo short trips and in time longer journies . Most of us become better drivers after our first bump (their fault obviously) I digress. So as I was saying I’m sure you understand what it’s like to drive the long road i.e. 2-3 hr trip, its fine if your traveling with someone else (as long as they stay awake) but if you are on your own it soon becomes boring and your eyes flick between the road , car gages and your chosen satnav screen, which of course tells you that what you believe was a hour or at least 30 mins was actually 2 mins. So imagine how I felt when I had to drive for about 6 hours solo a 500+ mile trip, after a few hours I felt the head nod trying to pop up, luckily the services came up. I pulled in grabbed a coffee and a toasty and a short power nap. It was as I was pulling out the car park that I broke the rules, I picked up a hitchhiker, again I know what you are thinking…. Never pick one up, they are all serial killers or muggers either way bad news right!
Yeah I would have agreed with you sat in Costa’s having a coffee and a pastry… but this hiker was a young women in her mid 20’s so worth a shot.
Anyway after a sideways glance she through her bags on the backseat and slipped into the passenger seat and we were off, she told me her name was Zara and she was travelling up to a hostel about 150 miles north of my destination, so this would work out perfectly for us both. We talked about festivals and sang along to the radio (badly) we got on well and having her in the car was a blessing. But in the end fate guides us all and we must answere too our weaknesses . She never saw the needle coming (fast acting paralytic ) I pulled into a lay-by and dropped off her clothes and contended of her bags. I then proceeded up the road turning off in a tree lined lane to the the left, her naked body calling me with every bump in the road. After doing what comes naturally to me I packed her into her large backpack. Back on the mane road I drove for a hour and parked at the viewing point over a beautifuly deep valley, I rested ther for about a hour and after the other travelers had moved on I hit the road again myself minus one backpack. Three hours later I knocked on my destinations door. “ ah how was your journey?”
I hugged the Little women at the door… it was fine Mum!
Drive carefully …….
