Chapter one: Darkness Falls
Just like any other person I was born of man to a women, unlike other though I was raised by others, home schooled. I was taught the sciences, math, and many languages… and sports including how to ride a horse, to shoot both bow and powder stick (i believe you would call this a gun, in the vulgar term). On top of these lessons I was instructed in etiquette, politics-the way of court and business.
You might say I had a good upbringing, that is to say the servants and tutors were fair to me, some might say kind, and for that I will always be grateful, but I never had a childhood.
It all changed on the day of my 18th birthday, I was reading Latin with a wise old monk known only as Thomas, when we heard a strange rumble followed by a deafening bang and rumble of falling stone. We rose from the table our faces mirroring each others concern, the door flew open with a slam, in stepped a member of the Mannors guards blood running down his limp left arm, “we are under attack! , I’m to get you to safety, follow me now!” As we ran down the corridor I asked about the attack, the guard knew nothing, stopping midway along a south wall he stopped and pushing on two bricks a door opened up, stone scrapped on stone, dust fell and spiders ran from this sudden intrusion, it was dark inside as myself and Thomas entered, the guard sounded scared as he pushed us in telling us to RUN! The door slammed shut, even through the easy 25 inch thick stone we could here the guards unpleasant death. After a few tentative steps our hands feeling the walls we found a torch, I’m not sure to this day how he did it but Thomas was able to light our way, we moved faster now not daring to make a sound, every so often the silence would be broken by a blood chilling scream, the ground would rumble with the occasional bang. We must have walked for at least half an hour my anxiety for those I might have called friend for my parents grew what had become of them, who was attacking. There must have been a direct hit above us, the sound was so loud, air gushed in puttin out the torch and the ceiling collapsed, pain shot through my head, I fell to the floor and contiousnes left me.
Chapter two: Blur
Eyes wont open, pain pass out
Voices ?? Mumbles pain pass out
A storm in the distance… maybe , pass out
That definitely sounds like laughter, it burns pass out
Eyes heavy but open now.. all blurry, don’t recognise, More pain , pass out.
I finally wake without pain, in. A strange bed the centre point of a stone walled room, one window with long black curtans, closed like the single wooden door , it stated to open…
Watching her walk into the room, I feel safe and yet really unsure.
“Ah you are awake, good” her smile bared pure white teeth against deep red lips and some how beautiful yellow eyes with electric purple flick. “ I bet you have a lot of questions!”
A few!
“Fire away, I’m all ears and answers”
Where is Thomas, where am I and who are you?
“When I found you in the rubble the manner you were alone, sorry but we found no other survivors, as for this place, I welcome you to my home, my name is Ruby Raven I prefer the latter…
Ok! Ah Raven thank you for your hospitality, as soon as I’m well enough I think I should head home and try to work out who attacked us…
“Well about that, we know who attacked your home, it was Lord Darkhaven….
He now resides in a black fortress on the remains of your once great empire”
Wait well that’s great, I have skills and a few contacts I will have justice!
“ You don’t understand everything young master, you home was attacked, and you were pulled from the rubble 250 years ago…… I’m sorry there is much I should tell you……
Chapter three: story time
Ah um Raven, tell me What am I now?
“ please get dressed and meet me in the library, it’s the large green door at the end of the hall”
Raven left the room shutting the door as she left.
Putting on light brown pants and a linen vest, slipping into a pair of comfortable grey shoes, standing felling strangely fresh and maybe better than ever. Slowly opening the door I found nothing, that is to say it was a empty corridor of about 4 doors, and true enough at one end was a great green door and answered.
The green door opened and closed silently and for it’s great size was easy to move.
“Welcome to THE LIBARY, please take a seat”.
I sat in a high backed leather armchair.
“Stay your self and I will tell you a short tail. I knew your Father many moons ago before you were born, even before he’d met your mother.. he saved my village from Stone wolves, from that day for several years I thought alongside your Farther, we saved each others lives more times than I can remember”….. Tea?
I nodded and Raven pored us both a cup of Blue spiced chi
“ after a few decades it came about that we would part waves, I made two promises to your Father that day…. First was that if he sent word of a son I would take him for training when he/you came of age, this is why we were already on our way when news of the attack came to us. The second was if anything happened to your father I would take you in and give you a home, and so you are here.” ….. more Tea?….. please!
“ you were in a bad way when we found you amongst the rubble, our healers slaved for hours doing what they could for your body and bones, yet still they came to me not sure if you would last the week, I thanked them for their work and relieved them, If you were to survive there was only one option left, I had to bite you!”
“Ok I have held it from you long enough, you are a immortal Raithling,
You have probably already noticed how well More you feel….. “
Yeah I mean I woke feeling better than ever!
“You now have improved senses IE sight smell etc you will also be stronger and faster. We will train you, and when you are ready…..”
REVENGE!
