The door opened, light from the corridor made my eyes sore, it was early the cell lights wouldn’t be coming on for at least an hour. I asked the guard what was going on, his only reply was to follow him, we arrived 20 mins later at the Bloke Commanders office, the guard waited outside but opened the door, I went in.

As I entered I saw that 2 soft chairs a desk with its own chair and the man himself, he had his back to me “take a seat Mr Johns”

Once sat he turned to face me gave a regretful smile

At which I asked if all was ok?

He had one thing to say,, “ you are free to go, you are inoscent” he pressed a hidden button, two things happened, the door opened again and I was escorted to front detention to collect my personal belonging, cloths wallet and watch, not much I know, I stepped outside breathing free air for the first time in 27 years I was 18 when put away for the murder of a young varsity girl, now 45 and free I was lead to a black car . On the drive away I was told that new evidence had come to light about 3 months ago and the real killer was now behind bars. I was taken to a local court house, where I was given a new name a home and 120,000 pounds in a new account , oh and a “ sincere apology for the 27 years I lost”

You know I remember it like it was yesterday of course it wasn’t after all you are listening to the word of a 80 years old hermit… the money new name, new life meant shit I died when I was thrown in that hole, 18 year old Arthur C. Johns
