Fae

Growing up I was always warned about toadstool rings, the which in the woods and wild bears etc but most of all the most feared the most tricksy of all were the FAE!

Do not talk to the Fae

Do not dance with the Fae

And never under any circumstances make a Deal with the Fae…they are tricksters, they will give you what you want, but the cost will be far too high and yo won’t see it coming.

I was told all of this and knowing what I do now I’m not sure if I’d do anything different !

My name is Scrog, yeah I know but it’s. The one I was given, I’m from the village of Skyview on a planet many years away in space and time from where you are now.I’m a farmer to my core and I was very happy, I had a good life a Beautiful wife, we were content and playful for years, Cella my wife fell pregnant, we were in our element I couldn’t stop smiling and Cella just became more radiant, all the beauty of spring and summer combined. Then the day came, clear skies a warm breeze and our daughter was born Tixa, such a ute bundle and quiet as a mouse, her eyes open from day one, so inquisitive. Then night after we’d put Tixa down we went out and sat on the swing chair in front of the house and watched the stars come out. It got cooler I sujested going in, Cella wanted to stay outside so I went in for blankets and coco, by the time I returned to my wife she was gone, I heard Tixa cry that nite. The Doctor was called , it was her heart, we buried my wife the following week.

It was hard at first but I was strong for Tixa, the nites were hardest. Five years past my daughter became my life , the best of both of us, my strength her mother beauty and as inquisitive as the day was long, we were happy. Just after Tixa turned six a fire broke out in our home , the sky turned orange and smoke rose to the heavens, I was in the field collecting fruit harvest, it took but a moment for me to realise, Tixa!

I’d never ran so fast calling her name louder and louder as I barged through the front door, the heat was intense, smoke made it hard to see , but I found her on the floor, scooping her up i ran back outside, half my clothes were burnt and so was I but I couldn’t feel it, Tixa was gone, dead in my arms, I screened to the heavens tears ran from my eyes on to her face leaving small trails. A voice came to Trill and almost playfully. When I looked up a figure of flame was stood in front of me, it repeated it’s words..” why so down, lost ur crown, undo this I can return the flower for the man , stop the flow watch her grow, gone the hurt gone the pain.”

I agreed even knowing this was Fae , so I gave my word and the Fae grinned, and I watched as the fire went out and the house lay untouched, Tixa got to her feet, she was spinning as she returned to the house, as she span gone was the black smears and burnt skin, she also got taller as she reached the door no longer was she my little girl but a grown women beautiful as ever, the door opened and a young man came out to meet her they went in the door closed.

“ watched her grow you have, time to go it is!”

Looking down the fae was no longer fire but water, its hand held towards me looking at me waiting, I took one last look at the house and took its hand, she was safe and happy, what more could I want as I disappeared never to return home …..
